Obama Watch

get it straight in ‘08

Ok, I will start off by apologizing about my lack of posting over the last couple of days. I have been trying to shake something…NOW…back to the good stuff.

Obama Obama Obama.
So, with the race so “close” his opponents are hanging on every word. The words may come from him..
“Our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there’s not evidence of that in their daily lives,” … “You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are going to regenerate and they have not.
And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

or from his pastor

Obama’s comments are actually really close to his pastor’s. Pastor Wright only approach the issue of race, simply because this country has been built on the backs of minorities. Obama talks based on the issue of class, simply because there is hope if you are only held down due to your financial status. You can possibly change how much money you have, you cannot change your skin color.
We ventured through the section of the city where the educated dwelled on St Patricks day. We all know alcohol is liquid courage and makes you say and do things you would not do if you did not have it in your system. There was an African-American woman on the corner, signing up people to register to vote. We walked up to her to ask her for an Obama button, and before one of us could even greet her “why is this city so racist?” came out of her mouth. We asked her to explain. She stated
“I am out here trying to get people to register to vote, I have heard “go home Nigger” too many times to count and I have only been out here an hour. I came here from New York and if my daughter would have heard them say that to her mother, that would have been the last thing out of their mouths”.
We chatted with her for awhile and went our seperate ways. That word, that horrible word, wraps up all the years of oppression and hurt in one neat little package. Everytime we are treated like crap where ever we go, work, live, or play. When we are turned down a promotion, and see the idiot they hire in that position we hear that word. When our opinion is completely disregarded and the issues you had concerns about pop up and prove you right and the pattern continues, we hear that word. When we are forced to take on the responsibilies of others that places us in the position where we are no longer afloat in OUR responsibilities, we hear that word. When we walk up to a person of another race and ask the time and they walk by us like we are not there, we hear that word. Even though that word is not actually said, the undertones are. When we say something is not working out and that a process is needed, we are seen as lazy regardless of how many duties you are already performing. Our diet is not the only reason why our blood pressure is high, we have ulcers, and heart disease runs rampid. We know we can never change the black to white status spectrum. It is alive in our economic structure

and we talk about it amongst ourselves

1. black tax
52 up, 10 down

The notion that Black people have to work and perform regular task twice as well as White people.

The teacher black taxed us on our project. Susan and Dena did not do half the work we did.

The higher prices that black people have to pay for

1) goods – often due to a lack of large grocery stores, mass market discounters

2) insurance, mortages, loans

due to their ethnicity

Buffy and Biff can get a lower rate on a home mortgage than Rasheed and LaShawna due to the black tax.

Now, we cannot talk about such issues. If we say something we are playing the “race card” and trying to use that as an excuse to be “lazy”.

Here is what “Affirmative Action” is

Affirmative action

Main article: Affirmative action in the United States

Affirmative action is a policy or program intended to promote access to education or employment for minority groups and women. Motivation for affirmative action policies is to redress the effects of past discrimination and to encourage public institutions such as universities, hospitals, and police forces to be more representative of the population.

Affirmative action programs may include targeted recruitment efforts, preferential treatment given to applicants from historically disadvantaged groups, and in some cases the use of quotas. Most American universities and some employers practice affirmative action.[citation needed]

Some opponents of affirmative action view the greater access by women and minority groups to be at the expense of groups considered dominant (typically white men). In their view, these policies demonstrate an overt preference for applicants from particular backgrounds over equally-qualified (or better-qualified) candidates from other backgrounds. Some opponents of affirmative action believe the only consideration in choosing between applicants should be merit. Some also criticize affirmative action because they believe it perpetuates racial division instead of minimizing the importance of race in American society.[141]

Supporters of affirmative action believe that the perceived injustice to the dominant group is not supported by facts. They point to statistics that suggest that affirmative action has not resulted in fewer opportunities for white people. For example, white enrollment in universities has increased along with minority enrollment. In 1973, 30% of white high school graduates attended universities; in 1993, after wide-spread implementation of affirmative action policies, that number had risen to 42%.[142] Some supporters of affirmative action point out that, even in the absence of affirmative action, college admissions rarely are purely merit-based: athletes, musicians, and legacy students (children of alumni) have always been given preferential treatment. For example, Harvard University admits 35-40% of legacy applicants,[142] and a rejected white applicant is more likely to have been displaced by a legacy student than by one who benefited from affirmative action.[citation needed]

Affirmative Action is NOT a free ticket anywhere. That law simply states that you cannot rule someone out with the intent of being racist. How can you prove someone’s mental state?

How does this link to religion come in? The story the Bible tells is of oppressed people. The Bible tells us that “the meek shall inherent the earth” and to be greatful for what we have. If my town does not have job opportunity,

I will be happy with having my family and the other ways I can control my life. When the job market leaves a major city, what happens? Crime skyrockets…

So if your town is small or you live in a big city, look around you before you get angry.
