I remember finding out Aaliyah passed away. I was with my mother, who wanted to get me out of the house because all I did was work and stay in the house my with young child (at that time he was 9 months).
Power 99 ended their party set early to cut to commercial to verify the shocking news story they received…

When Power 99 returned from commercial break, they announced that Aaliyah Haughton was involved in a plane crash that took her life and the lives of almost everyone on board (at that time one person was still hanging on), and that is was rumored that Damon Dash was also on the plane.
For months following the crash I kept up with the investigation as to why the crash happened, how the family was coping, and how the film studios planned on finishing the projects she started.
Those around at the time remember that Aaliyah was set to co-star in the one Matrix movies…her part (Zee) was later given to Nona Gaye.
The only thing positive that came out of this was Aaliyah was not around for the R. Kelly fiasco (the most recent one that is…)
