Did Media Etiquette go out the window?

This undated photo provided Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 by the US Marine Corps shows

The AP decided to post a picture of a dying soldier in his final moments. Anyone who has ever taken a film/video/photography class learned there are certain rules you have to follow..has social media numbed us to the point where we simply do not care?
My film and video teacher taught us the basic rules of capturing an image..
1- Never take pictures of people with food in their hand.
2- Never take a picture of people with a beverage in their hand.
3- Never take a picture of a dying or sick person, and if you end up with an image taken right before the person passes on, do NOT publish it.

Sadly, this family was not given the same respect.
The soldier pictured is the gentleman the AP decided did not deserve the respect due to him. His name was Lance Cpl Joshua Bernard. This gentleman passed away August 14th after being struck by a grenade.

The AP reported that the Marine’s father had asked – in an interview and in a follow-up phone call — that the image, taken by an embedded photographer, not be published.

Have we forgotten our manners?
