Brizzly vs Friendbar vs Tweetdeck vs Ping vs Tweetminer

twitter-networking-rules

Twitter has taken over, a year ago the people at my museum had no idea what Twitter was. I ended up starting an account for the museum and with that action alone generated the biggest publicity push for them. Now, there are plenty of ways to communicate using social media applications…as shocking as it sounds, people actually charge for classes on how to master social media. I am going to compare the applications I typically use, and detail their pros and cons.

I received an invite for brizzly (thanks @solacetech), a cleaner more user friendly version of Twitter. Interested in signing up for this new service? Here’s an invitation, good for 10 people. http://bit.ly/3Ub2QO
Brizzly allows its users quick access to uploading pictures to facebook and twitter, it also allows you to view videos without having to leave brizzly.com

Next, we discuss friendbar.
Friendbar - The Twitter and Facebook Toolbar

This is an add on for your browser that allows you to view your tweets and facebook underneath your status bar when you are not on the home page for the application. While you are on the home page, you have three streams showing- one for facebook status updates, one for your twitter feed updates and another for facebook pictures. You can see your replies in the bar above your screen.

If you do not have a Facebook page, but have a Twitter page (or two), you may look into TweetMiner.

You can log into multiple Twitter accounts simultaneously and can schedule tweets via rss feeds. In otherwords, this application is Friendfeed 2.0

With the first two applications I discussed, you can only log into facebook and twitter. If you do not have a Facebook Fan page or Myspace (yes, people still use Myspace), then the first two applications above should suit you just fine. If you are anti-Facebook and pro-Twitter, then all three of the applications should suite you well.

If you are lazy like I am, and want to have total control over all of your online identities, then you may want to use Tweetdeck.

This desktop application gives you full access to your Myspace, Facebook personal page AND Fan Pages, and Twitter. They have an Iphone ap (yuck) that stays pretty close to the desk top application.

You can add pictures, shorten urls, and retweet with ease. Unfortunately non of these applications allow you to see a list of your followers (but Tweetdeck does have “autocomplete” when you place the @ symbol in your update).

If you are truly extremely and totally lazy and want to be able to update all of your statuses at the same time…sign up for Ping.fm

With one text message you can update your LinkedIn, Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Friendster (yes, I know…), and Plaxo accounts. Have an issue with forgetting to upload pictures to your sites? No problem! Ping can post your pictures to all of them at once. There is some initial set up involved, however you will wonder how you ever survived without using this service!
