Movie Review- District 9
District 9 is definitely my pick for sleeper hit of the summer, forget all the other movies this year (well, except Star Trek)…this movie is worth every penny you will spend watch it!
An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology.
This synopsis does not give this movie justice. This is clearly a social commentary on how savage and evil the human race can be. This movie is more of a thriller movie than it is an action flick.
There is action….but not from start to finish, and the action you do get to see it some good “gun porn”.
There is also some very creative uses of farm animals as weapons (sorry PETA).
Short version of the summary is, Wilkus (the government agent newly recruited for a position he obviously should not have been placed in) is selected to help move the “Prawns” from Johannesburg to another section not too from from where they were. It turns out the operation was never about moving the “Prawns”, but it was about obtaining and utilizing their advanced technology.
Wilkus is exposed to the “Prawn juice” (umm wish I had a better word for it), and his world is turned upside down. Wilkus is betrayed by his race, and is accepted by the “Prawns”, but all he wants is to get back to his normal life.
This picture wins the “best use of a flying pig” award.
This movie is not for the kiddies.
