Obama has been called a baby daddy, terrorist, unpatriotic and has been wished dead by Fox news. Don Imus is back in the news over another racially charged comment over “Pacman” Jones. It seems like it is open season on the African American/Black race. Are we to blame by making an argument that it is ok to use the “N” word?
You don’t see anyone else making an argument allowing the use of hateful words to describe a race group. The word “whitie” sparked a huge media nightmare for the Obamas…and that word actually is descriptive (I say that in jest people, no need for alarm). We have had this discussion over the use of the “B” word in rap. We have people saying that word is ok even though it is a word that does not help the self esteem of the woman on the receiving end. Are we ever going to stop making a mockery of ourselves? There are simply some words you cannot make into positive ones.
Thanks to us, whenever a person of color steps into the lime light, they have to dodge insults such as “baby mama” and “baby dady”. We whole heartedly embraced negative labels in song
When people try and get us to respect ourselves more we have high profile entertainers speaking out against the movement
People tend to forget it’s entertainment and no different than someone going to a movie theatre for two-and-a-half hours watching rape, domestic and gun violence, and girls being called bitches and ho’s,” the female rapper Remy Ma told Billboard magazine. If you don’t like it, change the station or don’t buy the CD.”
What people fail to realize is, we cannot make the rules…. the prevailing group does…we cannot do or say certain things and expect to be respected. If it looks like we are acting like a freak show, that is how we will be treated…
Make sure your words match your actions.
